When you’re watching your favorite Twitch streamers, you might have noticed that some of them have a checkmark next to their names, which signifies that they are a verified Twitch account. How did they get that checkmark, and how can you get it for your channel?
How To Get Verified On Twitch
To get verified on Twitch, you need to become a Twitch Partner. Once you have done this, you will be automatically given the Twitch verified badge that tells your viewers that you are a verified account. Twitch can also choose to give the badge to some streamers who are not partners.
What Is The Twitch Verified Badge?
The Twitch verified badge is a purple octagon with a white checkmark in the center. This appears next to the name of a streamer on their profile and in chats. This checkmark will be automatically given to streamers when they become a Twitch Partner and can be edited in the chat settings.
How To Get Verified On Twitch Without Being A Partner
If you’re are not a Twitch Partner, or would prefer not to become one for any reason, but would still like your account to be verified, then this is possible. You will need to contact Twitch Support and explain why you feel your account ought to be verified. Twitch usually makes exceptions for brands and celebrities, so this can be harder to do as an individual.
Twitch make this exception for brands and celebrities, because they may not be full-time streamers on Twitch, but might want to do some promotional streams on the platform. If this streamer is an established brand or a celebrity, rather than making them go through the process of becoming a Twitch partner, it is much simpler for Twitch to just give them the verified badge, so people know that they are genuine.
This means that people who do end up taking in these promotional streams can do so with confidence that they are supporting the actual celebrity or brand and not an imposter. The verified badge is Twitch’s stamp of approval that says that these people are who they say they are.
You don’t have to be incredibly famous to get this badge. You may have noticed that some smaller streamers have the verified badge, but this is relatively rare. In most cases, Twitch will need a very good reason why they should give you a verified badge over the thousands of other streamers who are on the platform. Not everyone can build a large, recognizable brand or become a celebrity just to get verified, so Twitch also allows Twitch Partners to have their accounts verified too.
How To Become A Partner On Twitch
To become a partner on Twitch, you must first meet a few requirements. You must:
- Stream for at least 25 hours over a 30 day period
- Stream on 12 different days over a 30 day period
- Average 75 concurrent viewers over a 30 day period
- Apply and be accepted into the program
However, even if you meet all of these requirements, you could still be rejected from the Twitch Partner program when you apply. There are all kinds of reasons why you may be denied from the program and the final decision of who gets accepted and who does not is up to Twitch. Twitch doesn’t tend to give clear reasons for why they accept only some accounts, but there are some things you can do to give yourself the best chance of being made a partner.
Twitch wants partners who have clean track records with them, which means your account should have no major violations of their terms of service, and you should be able to demonstrate over a few months that you can attract and keep viewers.
It’s not uncommon to see streamers have one successful month, apply to the program, and then be rejected. Twitch Partner streamers usually receive a higher revenue percentage, so Twitch wants to be sure that only streamers that they see real potential in are getting accepted to the program.
If you have been denied by Twitch for the Partner scheme, don’t panic. You can always reapply at any time, and having been rejected in the past won’t count against you. When you are rejected, Twitch will usually provide you with a list of things that they want you to work on before they accept you as a Twitch Partner. You can use this information to improve your channel before you apply again.
How Many Followers Do You Need To Get Verified On Twitch?
There is no set number of followers that you need to have in order to become verified or to become a Twitch Partner. Twitch is more interested in the way that people interact with your streams than are in how many followers your channel has.
Followers do matter for becoming a Twitch Affiliate, but it is not a factor in deciding whether or not your account becomes partnered or verified.
Some streamers on Twitch have thousands of followers but hardly any viewers, whereas others have lots of viewers, without many followers.
Someone could have a lot of followers because they were raided by a large streamer. The community of this large streamer might follow, but they won’t be loyal to the new streamer or brand. The follow is just a quick way to show support.
Followers are still important, of course, as the more followers you have, the larger your potential reach will be, but once you have become a Twitter Affiliate, your follower count does become a lot less important in helping you to qualify for other programs on Twitch. If your goal is to get verified, don’t worry about your follower count too much.
The easiest way to get verified on Twitch and get that badge to display on your profile is to become a Twitch Partner. There are other ways to get verified, but these are less common, and usually much harder, unless you are already well-known outside of Twitch.
